Temporel, Data Mask, For JSON

Jean-Rene Roy - SQL266

Here a presentation about my favorite new feature of SQL Server 2016. First we will take a look at the temporal which will let you track and audit change to your data. Then we will look at Data Mask, this feature let you mask data from the server. Then I get to show how you can take advantage of FOR JSON.

Stand up Power BI in Just 1 hour!

Scott Stauffer - SQL346

This session will be all you need to get indoctrinated into Power BI. It doesn’t matter if you haven’t used Power BI – we help you step over the myriad of obstacles that await so that you can “Democratize your data!” Bring your PC if you like, or simply watch and learn, and try later at home or work
Here’s what we will do in the session…

  • create a Power BI Service with a 30-day trail
  • download Power BI Desktop (and point out other tools)
  • pull some public data into a solution
  • develop a model
  • create a visualization
  • publish the solution to the Power BI Service (to the cloud!)
  • share the solution with your coworkers
all this in 1 hour? Is it possible? Come find out!

What does SQL Server 2016 have in store for the DBA?

Richard Baumet - SQL376

We will take a look at the enhancements done to Always On availability groups to see how it fits your HADR needs. We will also take a look at some of the less well known features such as Log Stamping and Auto-Soft NUMA and how these out of the box features can benefit your environment. We’ll take a quick look at Row-Level security and how to implement that. Finally we finish off which is probably something we all have been waiting for…. Query Store.
